Favourite Festival: Women's Day

International Women's Day, originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on 8th of March every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women for their economic, political and social achievements. An effective Women's Day was the 1975 Icelandic women's strike which paved the way for the first female president in the world, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir. Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

Since those early years, International Women's Day has assumed a new global dimension for women in developed and developing countries alike. The growing international women's movement, which has been strengthened by four global United Nations women's conferences, has helped make the commemoration a rallying point to build support for women's rights and participation in the political and economic arenas.


In some countries, International Women's Day is commemorated by the festival activities, marching for equal rights with men, in the salaries, in education and training opportunities and career advancement , or social security conditions, against prostitution and violence against women, generally practical problems. This day, usually women in Europe and North America refused to accept flowers, as if that is a sign not only of equality and personality form.

In Vietnam, this day is a day typically male way women, give flowers, presents, but little talk of gender equality for sustainable, long-term. 8th of March was held in the offices, unions ... where women work and participation, women are giving flowers (roses are used to giving women a day at most) and gifts and operations before 8th of March  are very aggressive towards women.
